I spent this weekend up in South Lake tahoe for a last seasonal snowboarding trip and to watch the Heavenly High Roller Hold Em contest, the event was hosted by Shaun White and sponsored by Red bull. A great group of pro-snowboarders competed in a poker-kind-of game, betting on different tricks to execute. It was really quite something to see, it's definitely not your average sport. The competing riders were Eric Willet, Ulrik Badertscher, Mark McMorris, Gjermund Braaten, Chas Guldemond, Sage Kotsenburg, Mark Hoyt, Ian Thorley, Pat Burgener, and Eric Beauchemin.
The actual card game was dealt on this stage, while the huge jump made by Snow Park Technologies, was set behind it. Trust me, this thing was big.
Ian Thorley and Pat Burgener earlier in the contest. Eric Willet, awesome guy. The sun eventually set, dj set got brighter and that rad-party like atmosphere set in. Mark Hoyt, he pierced his lips especially for this event to intimidate his competition haha. He's a pretty cool and funny guy. I got a photo with him and he signed a postcard for me--but he said it was extra special so he used the shoulder of the guy next to me. The great Shaun White made his rounds too, this was his reaction to my new poppin red hair, or so I'd like to think haha. He's really a humble guy, he stopped and talked to a few of us, but security kept him moving. Chas, clap, clap, clap. Eric Willet and Sage Kotsenburg Snowboarders are great people, they like to hug. Thank you Eric, for being awesome and giving me tons of thumbs up instead of staring into the ESPN camera. Mark, only 19, who practically dominated the 2012/2013 snowboard season. Read up on him. You go McMorris. I believe they were calling him the Justin Bieber of the sport. Towards the end, people started getting really into it, a crowd snowball fight broke out haha.
And then there's Chas, the winner of it all. He was actually super nice, smiled for my camera lots of times. I took a few photos with him, then luckily ran into him after the whole event, yay for blurry iphone pictures too!
Then came the awards ceremony, awesomely awesome Eric, taking third. Shaun White greeting him and all.
Followed by Gjermund and Chas.
Red Bull ending the event with fireworks as guests bolted off to see Dj Pauly D, haha random but true.
A few more selfies with Ulrik, Ian, and Pat.
